Some great lullabies for your little one and a fun craft to keep track of your baby's growth

We had a lovely time with beautiful little Caroline at Baby Basics this morning.  Thanks to Lola at Noodle Kaboodles for hosting.  Baby Picassos and lullabies were the theme today.  We made cute little baby footprint keepsakes.  Here is a photo:

A great craft to do at home.  In fact, a really fun one to do every few months, as those little tootsies grow....  All you need is a small canvas from Dollarama, some non-toxic paint, a paintbrush, and a permanent marker.  'Paint' your baby's foot thoroughly, then apply the foot to the canvas, and write their name and age below, then frame and enjoy!  A collection of these would look adorable on the nursery wall and be a beautiful keepsake for years to come.

After we painted some beautiful little feet, we learned a few lullabies.  My daughters' favourite lullaby is 'Rock Me Gently', which is not that well known but so lovely.  My older daughter is nine and she still requests it every night!

Here are the songs we learned this morning.  Enjoy singing them to your little one (whether they are 9-months or 9-years old!).

Rock Me Gently (sung to the tune of 'Love Me Tender')
Rock me gently, rock me slow
Rock me where the robins go
Rock the branch and rock the bough
Rock the baby robins now
Rock me up and rock me down
Rock me off to sleepy town
Rock me gently up the stairs
To snuggle with my teddy bears
Good night (insert name here), I love you
And I always will.

Rock-a-Bye Baby
Rock-a-bye baby, in the treetops
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock
Look at the stars, way up in the sky
Imagine beyond them, baby will fly

Open, Shut Them
Open, shut them (gently open and close your baby's arms)
Open, shut them
Give a little clap clap clap (gently clap your baby's arms together)
Open, shut them
Open, shut them
Put them in you lap lap lap (gently tap your baby's lap)

Creep them, creep them (tickle your fingers from their toes to their chin)
Slowly creep them
Right up to your chin chin chin
Open up your little mouth (circle their mouth)
But do not let them in! (tickle back down to their toes)

Toe-Knee Chestnut Nose I Love You/
Tony Chestnut Knows I Love You (a body part learning song)
Toe-knee chest-nut nose I love you (touch each part of their body - the nut is their head)
Toe-knee nose
Toe-knee nose
Toe-knee chest-nut nose I love you
And that's what toe-knee nose

Enjoy these songs with your baby!  Sing lots and worry less about how you sound!  Your baby loves the sound of your voice more than any other voice in the world....and that is the truth.
