Sesame Street Presents: The Body at the Ontario Science Centre

Where can you find a giant nose that teaches you about sneezing, a poop machine, or go grocery shopping in Hooper's Store?

At the Ontario Science Centre's new Sesame Street Presents: The Body exhibit, that's where!  We had a lot of fun checking out a special preview this week before the crowds descending for the grand opening.  Science & Discovery is one of momstown's key program pillars, and we jump at programming that helps inspire curiosity and learning.

Sesame Street never goes wrong, and this exhibit didn't disappoint.  Building on great curriculum for preschoolers to help the them understand their body better, its a great place to go and have fun while learning about basic biology, health, movement and more.

In three zones related to the human body (Your Insides, Your Outsides, and Staying Healthy) you'll find lots of great stations, including:

  • Elmo's World
  • Rub a Dub Tub
  • Your Amazing Body
  • Rosita's Loco-Motion
  • Count's Organ Organ

Its very hands on and similar in style to many of the other great activities in the Science Centre.  If you haven't been there before, this is a perfect reason to go check it out.  Don't forget to stop and check out Kidspark while you're there, and expect it to be pretty busy on the weekends.

Fun Facts about the Body:

  • There are 206 bones in the adult body, but a baby has more than 350
  • The human body contains more than 60,000 miles of blood vessels, enough to circle the Earth nearly 2.5 times
  • The average preschooler takes 20-30 breaths per minute

Great questions to talk about with your preschooler as you visit the exhibit and afterwards:

  • What are some ways you can keep your inside body parts healthy and strong?
  • What's happening inside your body?
  • Why does your body need food?  If you don't eat it, how do your insides feel?
  • What happens to your body when it is resting?

Sesame Street Presents: The Body is running at the Ontario Science Centre from Jan 28 - May 5, 2014 and is included in general admission.
