Kid-Friendly Cinnamon Ornaments

Looking for a fun, super easy holiday craft?

Our momstown Toronto Holiday craft in this week's activities were cinnamon ornaments.  Love them.  Not only did the kids have a ball painting their creations, but my house smelled good for days after baking them up..

#momstownholiday Recipe:

Makes 12-15 small ornaments

1 cup cinnamon
(plus a few extra tablespoons to aid in rolling the dough much like you would with flour)

1/4 cup applesauce

*Note that some recipes you'll see call for craft glue, we skipped the glue for the little munchers we knew would try to eat them :)   Didn't need it, they still hardened nicely.   They are edible, but since they're primarily cinnamon, they don't taste very good.  Kids aren't likely to try eating them twice..

Instructions:

  • Combine cinnamon & applesauce.
  • Mix into a firm dough.
  • Roll the dough to approx 1/4" thick.
*as you can see in our picture above, a bottle of wine works great as a rolling pin in a pinch!
  • Cut with cookie cutters of your choice.  Small is better, less breakage.
  • Use a straw to create holes for string/ribbon to hang the finished ornaments.
  • You can let them sit for a couple of days to dry, but the faster and yummiest smelling option is to bake them at 200 degrees for 2 hrs.

Grab your paints, glitter, ribbon and have fun!

Thanks @maris_c for sharing pics of the final masterpiece on your tree!
