Family Literacy Day at Toronto Libraries

momstown is a HUGE supporter of early education and building literacy. momstown brings interactive activities to events, posts various literacy based ideas on our blogs and has a partnership with Scholastic Canada to donate books to our members monthly.



We're thrilled that the Toronto Libraries also have regular programs in place with the same goal - get more kids exposed to reading and literacy skills early. What would we do without our local libraries?

Family Literacy Day is January 27th. Here is a list of the local libaries in our momstown chapter (not a complete list) but the events our chapters think would be a great family adventure.

West Toronto

Saturday Jan 28th 10:00-11:00am
Runnymede Library : Around the world in 80 stories, give or take a few! Celebrate Family Literacy Day with a special storytime and craft. For families of all ages. Share the joy of reading! Please bring gently used children’s books to donate to the Children’s Book Bank. Contact the branch at 416-393-7697 for more information.

East Toronto

Thursday, January 26th 7-745pm
Main Street Branch: Celebrate Family Literacy Day with Applefun Puppetry!
Oh no! The Sheriff has stolen the money! The best way to get it back? A dancing contest of course! Afterwards, everyone will make a paper puppet to take home.
Ages 3 to 9. Space is limited. Free tickets will be handed out at 6:30 pm.

Friday Jan 27th 10:30 – 11:15
Pape/Danforth Branch:. Join us Family Literacy Day for Family Stories and Fun. Free tickets available 30 minutes before the event

Saturday Jan 28 1:00-2:00pm

Mid-Toronto

Maria A Shchuka branch: Children and their parents/caregivers are invited to come to the Maria A. Shchuka branch to watch Robin Hood and the Dragon Puppet Show. No registration is required. Call 416-394-1000 for more information.

Time outs - Do they work or don't they?

Disciplining is tough, do you give time outs and/or consequences?

momstown and Amy McCready, founder of Positive Parenting Solutions, have partnered again to offer a free live training webinar session that will hopefully clear up some of the confusion.
