Junior Chef: Make Marshmallow Snowmen

Want a fun & yummy snack that perfectly complements the cold weather?  Try making marshmallow snowmen!  Sweet, salty, delicious and easy to make for little hands.  Plus they're really cute.

Here's how we our Junior Chef event participants made their marshmallow friends:

  • Large Marshmallows - 3 for body
  • Small marshmallows - 4 for hands and legs (plus extras for snacking!)
  • Pretzel sticks - Use pretzel sticks to connect the body, then add arms & legs.
  • Use something edible like cake decorating paint, frosting, etc to paint face and buttons.  A toothpick dipped in food coloring would work too.

Enjoy!

PS.  Perfect accompaniment to hot chocolate, try making some extra arms & legs just for dunking.  Yum!

On Top of Spaghetti - Toronto Jr. Chefs Fill Up On Barilla

momstown Toronto had a super fun morning this week at our Jr.Chef event sponsored by Barilla Canada.

Who doesn't love spaghetti?  Barilla Plus® noodles were the perfect base for our delicious tomato sauce and mini meatballs. Our moms were thrilled because the new line of multigrain pasta also contains protein, fibre, and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. The best part, the kids will never know. We couldn't keep their hands off the noodles while they waited for the fixings! Little hands were digging in and eating fistfuls of plain noodles, without a clue they were snacking on treats chock full of nutrients.

The sauce and meatballs we made to accompany the pasta were quick and easy and a great way for the kids to get their hands dirty in the kitchen. The sauce included crushed tomatoes, garlic, onion and basil. Our delicious mini meatballs for mini mouths were made with ground beef, garlic, salt and pepper. Really quick and simple stuff.

While our team waited for lunch to be served we took advantage of the great ingredients we had and used the noodles to assemble some fun activity stations. Barilla Plus® is available in four different varieties including Penne, Rotini, Spaghetti and Spaghettini. The variety of sizes and shapes were terrific for some fun sensory play.

With full tummies, and necklaces for mom, our Jr. Chefs all went home with their own box of Barilla Plus® to enjoy with the rest of the family.

All ages playgroup - our theme was hats!

momstown Toronto met up this morning for some fun with Hats and Edible Crafts. The kids met with a Happy New Year hello and then wanted to jump right into making our crafts, singing some songs and reading some stories about Hats.

We started with Circle time where we read the book, "The Hat" by Holly Keller, then we had a sing-a-long about wearing hats!

The kids were pretty excited for our edible portion of craft time which was an Edible "Cat in the Hat" snack! (Ritz cracker as the base, whip cream, red gummy lifesaver x 3 layers) Thank you to momstown Kitchener-Waterloo for that craft! They were made, then eaten pretty quickly!

We also spent some time learning about different hats where w e colored the hats in the picture and labeled them as well.

Next the kids gathered together for a game of Hat Bean bag toss. Each child had a turn tossing bean bags into the different hats on the Floor. We had a cowboy hat, a baseball cap and a Safari hat! Lastly, we had some free play with the toys and stuffed animals.

Such fun!
