All ages playgroup - our theme was hats!

momstown Toronto met up this morning for some fun with Hats and Edible Crafts. The kids met with a Happy New Year hello and then wanted to jump right into making our crafts, singing some songs and reading some stories about Hats.

We started with Circle time where we read the book, "The Hat" by Holly Keller, then we had a sing-a-long about wearing hats!

The kids were pretty excited for our edible portion of craft time which was an Edible "Cat in the Hat" snack! (Ritz cracker as the base, whip cream, red gummy lifesaver x 3 layers) Thank you to momstown Kitchener-Waterloo for that craft! They were made, then eaten pretty quickly!

We also spent some time learning about different hats where w e colored the hats in the picture and labeled them as well.

Next the kids gathered together for a game of Hat Bean bag toss. Each child had a turn tossing bean bags into the different hats on the Floor. We had a cowboy hat, a baseball cap and a Safari hat! Lastly, we had some free play with the toys and stuffed animals.

Such fun!

Under the Sea Party

Today was our Under the Sea Party which was so much fun!

We made our own fishing rods from sticks, rope and paper clips. Our foam fish had paper clips attached for "the catch". We had Sea horses, starfish, dolphins and rainbow fish. The kids had fun "catching and releasing" the fish - with moms help of course!!

For safety, we removed the paper clips from the fish and the poles when we were finished so the kids could take home their fishing poles and "Catch of the Day".

After the party ended, and everyone was in dry clothes (!), my daughter Dylan and I made our own Sea Scene while we waited for lunch to cook by gluing our foam fish onto some construction paper. Here is our creation!

We also had our usual Circle time where we sang and read a book called "Sounds of the Wild" by Maurice Pledger. This book makes the noises of the ocean & sea as you turn the pages. In there are the fish like our foam fish and other under water sea animals as well. We didn't actually "read" the book so much as talk about the colors of the fish, what sound they make and look at the pictures!
We finally rounded out the party with a Craft - our Sock Octupus!

What song did we sing?
Bubbles: to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle

Bubbles floating all around (pretend to catch bubbles)
Bubbles fat and bubbles round (make a big circle w/arms)
Bubbles on my toes and nose (point to toes; point to nose)
Blow a bubble. ..up it goes! (pretend to blow bubble; point up)
Bubbles floating all around. (pretend to catch bubbles)
Bub. . .bles fall. ..ing to...the...ground. (sing slowly & sink to ground)

Keep checking back to our blog for pictures and news on our Park, Craft & Play for Father's Day event which was rescheduled due to weather, and is now being held Friday the 18th!
