How to make a fun (and super easy) firefighter hat!

This morning we hosted Art and Play at the Busy Genie Etobicoke, and our theme was fire trucks!  So much fun making the sounds of the truck and singing about firetrucks, and especially making our own firefighter hats!

Here is what you need to make a paper plate firefighter hat:

• a paper plate (preferably the cheep, flexible kind)
• red paint
• yellow constructon paper
• a black marker
• glue
• scissors

1. Paint a paper plate red, and allow to dry:

 

2. While plate is drying, cut a crest shape out of yellow construction paper.  Draw an "F" and "D" on the crest with a black marker:  

3. Once paper plate is dry, make a "U" shaped cut in the inner portion of the paper plate. Size the cut to fit your preschooler or toddler's head.  Here is what it should look like from the front and back:

4. Glue the crest onto the inner flap portion of the plate, and bend it upwards until you are happy with the shape:

 

5.  Put on your helmet, and get ready to fight fires, rescue kittens, and drive that fire truck!

Art & Play - Learning about our 5 senses

momstown West Toronto hosted a fun-filled Art & Play at the Busy Genie yesterday morning.  Our theme this month is our five senses.

At parachute time, we talked about our senses.  The kids knew that their eyes could see, their ears could hear, mouths can taste, noses can smell and hands can feel. We used our eyes and ears for story time - 'Click, Clack, Moo' - and the children made some great MOO-ing sounds!  Parachute time was fun, with bubbles, songs, parachute ride and the fly-away parachute to end. 

We decided to do a craft based on our sense of touch. We made a collage out of things that had different feelings, and textures.  Sidewalk chalk, feathers, fuzzy yarn, crepe paper and pasta noodles!  Lots of different things to feel, which made very different sounds.  Children love to dribble the glue and then see what sticks to it.

A fun-filled morning.  It was so nice to meet some of our new west-end momstown mamas, and their adorable little ones.  Here are some great snaps from the morning!

Toronto East - First Event at Bizzy Bee!

Thank you to Brenda of Bizzybee Playcentre for welcoming us into her space and allowing us to take over her couches for an hour! It was great to meet some new moms and so many cute little ones! Not too many toddlers made it out to this event, but I have been assured that they will not be left at home for the next one! Some babies braved having their hands and feet painted and stamped for a keepsake... some did not, but I do not really blame them.

I am excited to get this group going and growing over the next few months! We kept it really casual this time and the moms had a chance to talk and get to know each other. The next event at Bizzybee Playcentre will be on Wednesday, February 22nd at 9:30am. A Tales For Tots Program! Great for all ages!

Breakfast Pajama Party with Kellogg's!

momstown Toronto Bloorwest moms were treated to breakfast at our Back-to-school pajama party this week! We had a great selection of Kellogg's cereals to choose from: Raison Bran, Mini Wheats, Rice Krispies, Frosted Flakes, Corn Pops and Froot loops.

We all stayed in our pajamas all morning and enjoyed a breakfast with our kids.

Juleso was the lucky winner of the Kellogg's Prize pack. Her kids are super excited with all the cereal that now fills their cupboard!

All of our participants were lucky enough to take home $25 dollars worth of Kellogg's coupons, and the kids got stickers, and we all were able to have a healthy breakfast, got to try our some cereals that we might not have otherwise, as well as learn all about options for breakfast, how Kellogg's breakfast cereals compare nutritionally to other breakfast options.

It was a great morning to Love our Cereal and have some fun!

Picasso's in the Park - July 15th, 2011

momstown joined together on Friday for some create, messy fun! Despite the heat, the kids had a blast making some art using the paint brushes, their hands, sponges, and anything else they could find!

Happy Father's Day Daddy

Yesterday we gathered together for a morning where we celebrated Daddy! Our craft of the day was Rock Family paperweights for daddy's desk!
We took some rocks, paint, goggly eyes, hearts and sparkles; painted then glued them into the base of a pot holder! Easy, and Fun!
Daddy will love it!


It was a huge hit, a bit messy but enjoyed by everyone! Here is a quick look at a the combined work of mommy and tot!

After completing our craft time, we joined in a circle and sang some of the kids favorite songs, and read a story about Daddy called, "Daddy, I Love you! as well as a story about Pete the Cat and his White Shoes!

And of course no party is complete without some free time for the kids to run around!

Treasure Hunt and Picassos in High Park

Today our moms and tots joined up and went on a Treasure Hunt in High Park. The kids were given bags to put their "treasures" in, and after the hunt they were able to perform a little show and tell, then use their findings to create a picture!


It was a bit messy but the weather was perfect for our little artists, some who got covered in paint and some who decided to paint in their diapers!

Flowers, Nature and Fun

This morning we braved the cold and dull skies to have our Flowers, Nature and Fun get together.

We took small bio-degradable planters, which we decorated with stickers, and anything on hand, then filled with Soil and seeds, and each child took them home to watch their flowers grow, and eventually to plant in their gardens!

There was a ton of free play with the cars, slide and toys too! The kids stayed warm by playing with one another, while the moms stayed warm by the fire pit that we had lit up for our morning festivities!

Thank you to PlantWorld for donating the pots, soil and seeds! We had a great time!

Will you be my Valentine?!

Saturday momstown Toronto celebrated Valentine's Day with some songs, crafts, games and treats of course!!

It was great to see the kids in Red as part of t he celebration. Thank you to Grenadier Retirement Lodge where the seniors had as much fun as the kids!

The kids won prizes with our Pin the Heart on Cupid - Candy Bracelets, which were finished long before the party was over!

We also made pasta necklaces that the kids proudly showed off to their moms and the seniors taking in all the action!

Wiggle and Dance with My Body

Another Thursday and another funtastic day! momstown Toronto played with the momstown My Body theme made Body Skeletons out of paper, q-tips, glue and crayons! The kids had a great time and their creations were wonderful!

The kids know each other well, they play well and they snuggle well!

Our songs were all focused on the music and motion for the kids! The hokey pokey, Ten Little fingers, Head & Shoulders and the all time favorite, Sleeping Bunnies. It was great!

Our Body all ages playgroup

What a great morning! Our momstown Toronto toddler and preschoolers kids had a good time, making their paper dolls. Some had skirts, some had shorts, we even had a Tarzan doll!

The momstown moms had a good time catching up and making full-body sketches of their preschoolers and toddlers!

Not a dull moment this morning! The kids were even able to watch the tree-cutters taking down a dying tree from the street. The big trucks made for a ton of "discussion"!

Hats, Headbands and Crowns too!

More fun with our playgroup today! Welcome to Claire and Marley who came out to join us today Our monthly momstown theme is Hats and we incorporated that!

Since Valentines day is around the corner, our cra ft today was Valentines headbands with some wiggly hearts at the top. They move when the kids walk!

A great time was had by all! The moms had a great time talking and the kids all got along very well - playing, running, crafting....
